AI providers
Effective May 2026
Ottopen uses hosted AI providers only when you ask for an AI-powered action. That includes rewrite, continuation, story-memory, outline, and voice-related features that depend on enabled providers.
Hosted AI
Ottopen is designed around hosted provider connections configured for the workspace. When enabled, text requests may be sent to text AI providers such as Anthropic or OpenAI, and voice or audio requests may be routed to providers such as ElevenLabs.
What content is sent
Ottopen sends only the content needed for the feature you request. That may include your selected text, the active chapter, project context, character notes, beat-sheet context, or a short audition script for voice previews.
How context is selected
Ottopen chooses context based on the active feature. A rewrite request may send the selected passage and nearby chapter context. Story-memory features may send chapter text plus project canon details. Voice auditions use a short sample passage instead of your entire manuscript.
When providers are called
AI providers are not invoked automatically for every keystroke. Writers control when an AI action is run. If a provider is unavailable for a workspace, Ottopen should fall back to non-live preview behavior or hide the unavailable feature.
Voice and audio providers are used only when the user invokes a voice audition, voice preview, test render, retake, or final chapter render. Draft and Studio audio access is limited to playback-only evaluation workflows. Audiobook Studio is the paid production plan; each final render shows a cost estimate before confirmation and failed renders are not billed as successful output.
Bring-your-own-key and local AI
Bring-your-own-key and local-model execution are not user-configurable in this version. Provider access is currently managed at the workspace level.
Training and retention
Ottopen does not train its own models on your drafts. Third-party provider handling is governed by each provider's live terms, retention rules, and enterprise settings. Ottopen does not claim provider-specific guarantees unless those settings have been verified for the deployment.
